Suspended license in Texas: what follows a violation
4 receipts · verified
This page covers a license suspension for driving while license invalid, its effect on a policy and the occupational license.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) says a person convicted of an offense or involved in a crash while their license is invalid is subject to a departmental suspension of 90 days1. DPS also says a mandatory suspension for driving while license invalid can last up to 2 years1.
A suspension can reach the insurance policy too. The Insurance Code says an insurer may cancel a personal auto policy if the license or registration of the named insured, or of a household or customary driver, is suspended or revoked.2 It also says an insurer may not cancel for a suspended license if the named insured consents to an endorsement terminating coverage for the person whose license is suspended or revoked.2
For an occupational license, DPS lists a certified petition copy, a signed and stamped court order, an SR-22, payment of reinstatement fees, and the occupational license fee.3 The Transportation Code says the judge may deny the petition if the petitioner is unable to present evidence of financial responsibility.4
