Car insurance rules by state

40 receipts · verified

Each state sets its own car insurance rules, so the site keeps them in separate state sections. Each section is built from that state’s own sources.

How a state section is organized

A state section is divided into situations, such as a required filing or a license suspension. Each situation has a page that sets out what happens first and what follows. Under each situation sit question pages. Each one is worded the way a person would search for it and answers one question from a short list of sources.

What a state section answers

The Texas section answers these kinds of question:

  • What a required filing is, who submits it and how long it lasts.
  • What the penalties are for an offense, including fines and jail terms.
  • How license suspensions work, from hearings to reinstatement fees and occupational licenses.
  • What happens when a policy is cancelled, lapses or is reinstated.
  • How down payments, payment plans and premium financing work.

Where coverage stands

The Texas section is the only one so far. The cards below link to it.
